West Valley Track Meet, Layne

A chilly morning with a lot of waiting for events.  It was worth the wait to watch Layne run the mile.  

I was bundled up so I didn't get very cold.  Once in a while I would walk around the school to warm up.  There were 24 schools at this track meet. Huge meet. I was thinking a couple of heats for each event.  Not true.  Lots of heats for each event.  How the kids stayed warm while they waited I have no idea.  

Here we go! Off to the races.  This was the 1600 meter run (mile).  There were several heats and Layne was in in the first heat.

Some instruction I assume.  

Off they go!  It was a little more picture friendly this time but still hard to keep up with the girls for pictures. Lap number one of four.

Lap number two from the other side of the track.  You could come down on the grass area in the middle of the track so I could go back and forth to different places along the track.

Layne came in 9th out of the 46 girls that ran the race.  Pretty darn good for her first year running track.  It was so worth the wait to watch her.

It would be better to just smile at the camera! 

Layne is doing track this spring instead of softball.  If my information is correct track is something she will have to do in college at the University of Montana so she is getting some experience. There is a lot of wait time at track meets and she is waiting for her event with her friend.  

Now it is time to start the 1 mile race.  The girls got a bit of coaching on how to position themselves before the race started.  At least I think that was what was happening.

Wow! 2nd place finisher. I am not sure of her time.  Layne did a great job.  I think this was the first time she ran in a meet on an outdoor track.

I believe this was also a 2nd place finish at 1 minute and 4 seconds.  I can't even imagine. When Layne told me her time I went WHAT?  We look forward to watching more track meets and to watch Lucy play softball.  These girls are so special and we love watching them doing everything they do!
