A Happy Day at the Lake

Well, this was a pretty fabulous Saturday at the lake with the Lathrops!  As soon as we arrived I heard this shout, "Grandma let's go in the kayaks"!  Off I went with Lucy. It was a beautiful day.  Just right, not too hot and lots of sunshine!

We had to beach the kayaks and jump in the water of course.
We are heading back and Layne is working on a project she started Friday night.  Pulling all the screws out of the old dock.  She was getting paid 2 cents for every screw she got out with the screw gun.  It was a lot of work and she did not stop.  We were having fun and she was having fun making a few dollars.

We had a little paddle splashing action going on here!

There she is working away!
This is the tent the Lathrops slept in!
Kristin was cleaning up the beach of unwanted drift wood!
New dock is on it's way.
Millie can't eat any people food for health reasons.  Lucy threw a cherry pit into the lake and Millie ate it.  Millie is fine but she just kept starting at Lucy.  Throw another one Lucy!
Break time from the dock work!

Our next adventure was snorkeling.  I had never done that.  After trying it I decided it would be a great way to get through triathlon swims.  Never out of breath!
Lucy and me!

The Mike Man!

These were the most unique dragon flies I had ever seen.  They had gold threading through their wings.  Never thought I would think a dragon fly was beautiful.

Watermelon on a summer day at the lake.  Can't get much better!

Knee pads.  Mike forgot he had his on and they stayed on a long long time!
Mike started helping Layne with her screw removal to make things go faster.

You never know what you will find when you use the paddle board!
A girl and her fishing pole!

Back to work on the dock!

A dip in the water and a race around the dock.  The winner is...

Layne!

We got a tiny bit of rain!
More fishing!  They catch small fish and release them back into the lake.

Layne's tackle box!
Dogs love to fetch a ball.  Roy loves to fetch a ball from the water!
Millie tries to steal it!
Time for a boat ride around the lake!

We pulled the boat over by an old hunter's cabin and decided to check it out! Wow, look at the cedar trees!
Here it is all boarded up.

There goes Justin, exploring!

The water in this creek was very cold!

Layne found one tiny open place between the logs.  You could see only a tiny bit!  I snapped a picture of what I could.  This would be a mystery that would be fun to try and solve.  Who owns it, how long has it been closed up and what does the inside look like.
The outdoor restroom!
Heading back now!

Layne's hard work paid off.  She earned over 20 dollars and her mom matched what her grandpa gave her.

There is that dog that stares!

A last minute kayak trip with Layne before dinner!
We topped off the day with a campfire.
Love this picture with the reflection of the clouds and trees in the lake!

What's a campfire with out s'mores.
Everyone had their own technique for roasting marshmellows and of course we each thought our way was the best.

Some liked their marshmallows toasty brown.  Some didn't care if they were burnt.   That was Layne and me.  We had no problem with catching the marshmallows on fire.
Mike wasn't even going to have a s'more.  Well, you see how that worked out.
It was a beautiful day at the lake.  Justin and Lucy were the only two noticing I was taking a picture.
On our way home we got to drive along this moose and try and take a few pictures.  Ahh, nature, family and wildlife.  The Pacific Northwest is the best!
