Bolder Boulder 2019, Memorial Day

Family fun!  It was great fun to do this race with the family.  We took our time and experienced all the fun things along the course.  There are at least as many people in this race as are there in Bloomsday. This was the 41st Bolder Boulder race.  There have been 43 Bloomsday races.
Car parked and to the bus!

Ryland wore this the whole race.  His shiny face is slathered with sunscreen.
Off we go! On the bus to get to the race.
We have arrived, let the fun begin!

We had great timing, we arrived about 10 minutes before our wave started.

 Get ready!
Every wave gets a send off like this!
 And off we go!!!
Ryland and Easton wanted to walk and do all the fun things along the way.  As soon as the gun went off the running began!  We all started to run.  Turns out they wanted to get to the trampoline before the line was long.  Running in that altitude was interesting!  I should say jogging.  The kids made it to the trampoline! Videos below!

 The Blues Brothers were there!
And what do you know, so was Elvis!
At this point Ryland decided to jog with Mark and Easton stayed with Keri and me!

Bands, bands and more bands.  There were official bands and bands in driveways along the way.  They were all good.
 Free bacon!
Keri got in on the action with a little dancing!
 Keri doing the moonwalk!
Yep!  She moonwalks and they drink.  Not a good thing if they did this the whole race.
 Drummers and belly dancers!

We kept watching the clouds.  Colorado storms are not pleasant.
The bald eagle, Uncle Same, Abraham Lincoln!
 A driveway band!
What are we waiting in line for?
 Popcorn!
 The neighbors gather to watch!

Clogging, I think that is what it is called.
 Statue of Liberty!
Well, you could even kiss a pug!

One of the best parts! Watching the Marines jogging and chanting along the route.

 A little hopscotch!

 Gotta stop for some chips!!!
 And to play soccer!

This is the second slip and slide! Here goes Easton!

We are just about to get to the highest elevation on the course!

 We made it!
 A pirate?
This is another group of service members!
We wove through the neighborhoods and now through the city.  People come out to watch all along the route.
Easton got tired of walking so he would run awhile and then wait for us.

AHHH! The cupcakes.  When you get cupcakes you know you are close to the finish!

Bagpipes, now we are really close to the finish!
 There is the stadium!

 Love this!
Look at those clouds!  One more turn into the stadium!
Now one lap around the track and we cross the finish line.
The crowd is gathering for the Memorial Day Ceremony.
The finish line!!!  We did it! As you can see the clouds never got us!

We got to watch the professional athletes race.  They go last and we watch the race on the big screen while the announcers commentate over the loud speakers.  It is exciting to watch.
This was the person that won the men's race.  He was way out in front.
The Memorial Ceremony starts.  They talked about 3 families that had lost family members while fighting for our freedom.  All three families attended the ceremony.  It was very emotional.
New recruits being enlisted on this day.

At the end of the ceremony we all start looking to the sky for the parachutes.  You can barely spot them.  They swirl around the sky waiting to make their landing.

One by one they come into the stadium carrying a flag from each of the branches of the military.  They ask anyone who served or is serving to stand as their flag enters the stadium.

The last flag that enters the stadium is the flag of the United States of America.  As soon as we see the flag coming they start playing, I'm Proud to be an American. What an ending!  It is so powerful.  People singing, cheering and with tears in their eyes.
