The 2023 Graduate, Layne

It's been an eventful week!  Awards and a graduation party for Layne.  I attended the Shining Stars awards celebration on Thursday night.  I was totally amazed at this senior class at Deer Park High School.  Out of 150 students 57 got academic awards.  Layne received a gold cord for her GPA!  The gold cord is like Summa Cum Laude.  You need over a 3.9 GPA to receive a gold cord. Impressive.

Layne also got a scholarship from Dollars for Scholars.

Layne also got an award for being a salutatorian.  This is another award for 4 years of having a GPA of over 3.9.  I don't remember exact number.
Another award to wear on graduation day.  She also received awards for ASB and the National Honor Society. Whew!!!
Thursday, and now it's time to party.  I got to the Lathrop's a bit early so I would help set up.  I had to capture this picture.  Kristin chopping onions with her ski goggles on! Classic!
Brandy helped Kristin create this display on Wednesday night. The flying letters got clipped down eventually.

Layne would not stand for a picture before everyone got to the party.  She said her hair wasn't ready for a picture.  Lucy stood in for Layne.  That is a Lucy pose.
Then Lucy did the classic Layne pose.
Lucy modeled the top of Layne's graduation cap.  All decorated.
One more display to set up!
Finally got the picture I wanted.
Layne and her friend Tyler!
Lucy is still working to get ready for the party.
Those clouds look like they could be a problem but so far so good.

Mosquito spray is a must at the Lathrops.
A great set up with tables outside.  Lots of space for the guests to sit.  Clouds still seem problematic.

The guests were arriving.  So were the raindrops.
Such a great set up until it wasn't.  The rain started a bit and didn't alarm anyone too much.  Then the wind joined the increased rain.  The chips, napkins and lettuce were flying. It was scramble to get everything inside.  I didn't get pictures of that because I was helping. Everyone chipped in and the tables ended up in the shop.
Here we go.  Everything is inside.
Tables in the shop. No problem.  It was a group effort to get them there.
Rain and wind! Lots of it!
What do you do?  Go with the flow.

Everyone adjusted and it was a great celebration for Layne. The rain didn't slow anyone down.
My job was to take pictures.  It really wasn't a job.  I wanted to take pictures.  Layne will never forget this adventure.  Enjoy the pictures.

Here grandma, I don't want my picture taken (Layne).  Take a picture of my drink.

Eventually you were shielded from the rain on the deck but the deck was wet because of the rain going sideways during the wind.

Tyler doing his best to explain how to complete the Rubric cube to Layne.

Time to go home.  It was a great celebration.  We are looking forward to Layne's graduation!
The graduation gown including some of the awards!
Next step is off to Montana!
