We took our last trailer camping trip in September. We had never been to Lost Moose and decided to try it out. It was a great decision. As usual our journey to pack and leave early was interrupted. The travel trailer had a flat tire. Mike was on it. He hooked up the trailer and took it to Les Schwab. They took care of it right away. Off we went!!! We arrived later than expected but we loved the area. Whew, all done setting up and time to relax. All three of them relaxing!!!
The next morning much to my surprise Bigfoot was stalking the campground! His hiding skills were not top notch. I see you!We had a nice creek running behind the campground. Latour Creek!
The set up!
Still not really skilled at hiding. And they say Bigfoot isn't real!!
Wonderful people run the campground! The camp store was low on inventory because it was almost the end of their season. I managed to find a t-shirt to buy!
Still see you!!!
Up close and personal! Bigfoot is harmless.
The first two days were full of water droplets dripping from the sky. When we could we would get out of the trailer and take walks with our dogs. It was pretty chilly so sitting outside under our awning didn't work. Such a fabulous area!!! No cell phone service was great for sure.
It rained during the day and the night was clear. I tried to get a picture of the moon. It was round and bright. This is what I got. I know there is a setting my camera that would help. Maybe shutter speed? Let less light in? I didn't want to mess with it. Someday I will learn all the ins and outs of my camera.
Nap time for Sammie and Mike.
Oh, and Murphy!
When we got up and moving on Tuesday we noticed we were the only people in the campground. It was like that for a couple of days. Friday more people started rolling in. Sort of awesome!
Mike documented the vacant campground with a video and it won't load so after many tries I quit trying to load it. Just imagine with the pictures.
Next best thing. A picture of Mike taking a video! We decided to get out and take a drive to nearby Pinehurst. Mike wanted bananas. It also got us out of the trailer for a longer period of time. Off we go! 6 miles of muddy, clay roads until we hit the paved roads.
This bridge seemed sketchy. We made it over with our trailer and it didn't collapse so with only the truck it should be fine. I got out in the rain to take pictures. Sacrifices! HA.
The wood planks did not look good.
Maybe someone's vehicle was too wide. Broken.
Broken on the other side too. You can't really see how deteriorated some of the wood planks are in this picture. There had to be a sturdy structure underneath the wood planks.
The rain let up and next few days. It was off and on. Mike and his fire! The master fire builder.
I wandered around just to take pictures.
I hope the campers here were aware of the Bigfoot in the area.
The entrance!
This pavilion wasn't used much while we were her. Rain and lack of campers contributed to that. Lots of activities happen here normally.
Mike took off on his 4 wheeler to Pinehurst again. I can't remember why. To buy something but I can't remember what. Maybe beer. You can ride your 4 wheeler on the back roads all the way to Pinehurst.
Mike had talk to these two men when we went to Pinehurst the first time. He saw them fishing and wanted to know everything about it. We both learned there were Chinook salmon in the river and we actually got to see them spawning.
On his trip to Pinehurst on the 4 wheeler Mike didn't return to the campsite when I thought he should have so I was getting concerned. He was on a 4 wheeler after all. Guess what? He stopped again to talk to BJ and Frank. He was safe.
Mike and the dogs.
The rain let up the last two days. It was off and on but mostly off. There was a lake that we wanted to see. Mike got directions from the people that were running the shop at the campsite including the owner, Fred. We had directions and a map. We left the map at the campsite but we had heard the directions and we would be fine. On our first trip we never found the lake. What we did find way up the mountain was a group of loggers. They had no idea were the lake was. When we got back to the campsite we told the group in the shop, no luck, we didn't find it. We got new information the next day. Stay on the main road and to the right. These were not paved roads, you can see in these pictures what they looked like. How do you tell if it is the main road? They all looked the same. Well, some were obviously not a main road. No roads were marked with names or numbers. None of them. We took off again! We never did find the lake but we saw some of God's beautiful creation!
Mike's camouflage jacket is pretty effective isn't it?
Fall colors!
Mike and his 4 wheeler look pretty small compared to the mountains.
It as cold! We were bundled up.
More beautiful fall colors. God created the leaves that turn many different colors and it is beautiful.
A masterpiece created by the Almighty God.
Wildlife! Finally. A young moose.
We made our way back to the campsite. It was a great journey even though we didn't find the lake.
I bundled up!
Fred, the owner of the campsite, found out we didn't find the lake. He grabbed Mike and off they went together to go to the lake. Mike said there was no way we would have found it by ourselves.
Mike took pictures! The lake! Success! This is Fred. What a great guy. He wanted us to be able to find the lake next time we came to the campground. That was a really great thing to do. Thank you Fred!
We did have a couple of other issues that had nothing to do with the campground. We had water and electrical hook ups for our trailer. We didn't use the tanks because the campsite had bathrooms and showers. We just didn't let the water go down the sinks. It was working fine. After using cold water for a couple of days I mentioned we could turn the hot water tank on and we wouldn't have to boil water to clean dishes. Well, the water never heated up. There was a problem with something associated with the hot water tank. We had no idea what to do. Rookies! We turned off the heater to the tank and continued to boil. Then we noticed water on the floor of the trailer. Not a lot. I thought it might be from knocking over the dogs water bowls. After thinking for a bit I decided to check the filter in one of the compartments. It was full of water. The water in the trailer wasn't from the water bowls. We had a leak. Again, we didn't know how to fix it so we turned off the water to the trailer. Not a big deal. We were leaving in a day and we could still get water from the water fixture in our campsite. There will be some repair work happening on our trailer.
Even though we had rain and trailer issues we had such a good time. We will be back and plan on making reservations as soon as they accept reservations for the next year. Wonderful camp hosts and Fred was beyond helpful and so nice. He took his time to show Mike where the lake was. It was great to disconnect (no cell service) and spend time just enjoying what was around us, including each other.
Looks beautiful. Someone must have left donuts out for Bigfoot bait 😁
