Christmas with the Rockettes, Rockefeller Square and No Hugh Jackman Wednesday the 23 of November

The local library on the way to Rockefeller Square!  

The world famous Christmas tree all decorated.  The workers were in the process of taking the scaffolding off the tree.  Would have been something to see to watch the tree lighting! That came after we left. 

My favorite part of seeing the tree were the angels that lined the path to the tree. 

There was talk about ice skating before we left for NYC.  I told Keri I could take pictures of them skating.  No ice skating for me.  Against doctor's orders after back surgery.  Then Katie chimed in and said she couldn't skate because of her ALC surgery.  Turns out Keri didn't want to ice skate either, so we watched.  

Next stop was Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes Christmas program.  It was nothing like I imagined it would be.  

We weren't quite sure what to do with these things.  Take a picture and tag Rockettes Christmas Spectacular or something like that.  We just did our own thing. 

I had no idea how fabulous the Radio City Music Hall was. 

The Radio City Music Hall is a huge dome inside and we needed our 3D glasses at the start.  We watched Santa and his reindeer fly in with our glasses.  Kristin joined in! 

Different things were projected on the dome.  This felt like we were in a snow globe. 

No pictures during the show but it was fabulous.  Singing, dancing, acting! So much more than I expected.  

It ended with a manger scene with live animals.  Camels, yes, camels and sheep.  It was a really great way to end the show.  After all Jesus is the reason for the season.

Hugh Jackman was performing in NYC.  Keri and Katie wanted to hang out after Hugh Jackman's show the night before to see him as he came out to leave.  He didn't perform because he was sick.  So after the Rockettes we tried again.  Some nice people that were waiting for actors to come out after the show said Hugh did not perform again.

We did the next best thing.  We all took pictures of his picture.  Kristin on a stick even joined in.

Now the journey through Time Square to the subway and the final destination, our hotel. 

Mr. Policeman said he couldn't hold Kristin on a stick but taking a picture was AOK!

The Once in a Lifetime Experience Tuesday November 22, 2022

I don't even know how to start these posts.  What a gift from my daughters and what a special trip.  After a red eye flight where Katie and I didn't sleep much we landed in New York!

This is where Kristin on a stick made her first appearance.  Katie made two pictures of Kristin to accompany us on the trip.  Getting from the airport to our hotel was a challenge with no sleep.  Not to mention not being fully recovered from back surgery. Trains and subways, up and down stairs with suitcases.  Katie had to lug mine up with hers on one set of stairs.  

We finally made it to the hotel early.  Too early to check in unless Keri paid for early check in.  Keri had been waiting for us for some time.  It was probably around 8 AM.  Keri finally pulled the aging mother card to get a discount to check in early.  She said her aging mother needed to lay down.  Ha!  Well, we did lay down with our eyes closed for about 3 hours.  Then off we went to Central Park.  

First order of business was lunch at a Mexican restaurant.  Go to New York City and eat Mexican food.  I am sure everyone does that.  The food was fabulous.

Now the walk to Central Park.  The park wasn't far!

I heard music playing and wondered where it was coming from.  These rides are all over NYC with music. 

Here we are!

A beautiful park in the middle of a city. 

I had never seen a black squirrel!  Didn't even know they existed. 

This is an ice rescue ladder.  There are several of them around the park.  I guess people try and walk on water or ice and it just doesn't work!

This man was feeding the birds.  The birds took food right out of his hand.  

The evening activity was a Broadway Play.  

Here we go!

No pictures allowed during the performance but it was OK before it officially started.  The talent was amazing.  Especially the actress that played Juliet.  The play was about Juliet's life after Romeo if she hadn't died.  Romeo did make an appearance toward the end.  Lots of dancing, music, singing, laughing and a ton of talented actors.

We waited by the actor's exit afterwards to see them leave.  They were all really friendly!  

A great start to this trip!
