District Cross Country Meet 2021 Medical Lake

The beginning of the end of the cross country season and it was a good one! We couldn't be more proud of Layne and the effort she puts into everything she does.
Deer Park Girls heading to the start line with their coach. Running 5000 meters coming up!

Warming up!
Off they go! There is a beige line under Layne!

The 4 leaders!

They hung together most of the race! The hill!

The three in front are starting to separate themselves from the fourth runner.

So close!
This is the finish with a runner from Lakeside coming in first and Layne right behind her.  Go Layne!

This is always so exciting to watch.  Layne headed for the finish line!

Layne crossed the finish line in second place only 5 seconds behind the lead runner.  Great job Layne!!!  2nd in the district!!  We were all so proud of her.

This is a video of Layne finishing the race. Click on the video to watch

A congratulations high 5 from Lucy.

Layne's support team!

Deer Park girls!
And there is the new letterman's jacket!!!
Love this!!!  Such a smile, such joy.
Her words after she finished the race.  "I get to stand on a box."  Yes Layne you get to stand on a box and here it is! Click on the video to listen to Layne and others get their awards.

Lots of photos,! Ya just got to capture every moment! All these girls would have qualified for the state meet but no state meet this year.

Afterwards Layne was snagged by a reporter from the Deer Park newspaper.  After finishing her interview she looked at her mom and said, "I'm hungry."  Of course she is! She worked hard.

Layne and the jacket with Mt. Spokane as a backdrop!
Loved watching Keri, Kristin and Katie grow up playing sports and now we get to watch the grandkids doing the same.  What a joy!!!

Cross Country at It's Finest, Layne

Another Saturday Cross Country Meet for Layne!!!  She is so fun to watch. So much talent! This is the start.
Layne and this Newport runner were neck and neck ALMOST the whole race.
Layne was just a step or two behind her.

Until this!  The last lap and Layne turned it on.
The Newport runner is no longer in the picture.
The gap kept widening and widening.  I headed back to the finish line.
And here she comes!

Congratulations to each other!  It was a great race.
So wonderful to see the family cheering Layne on.  Lucy would run back to check Layne's time each lap and report back.  Lots of cheering from the grandparents!  So proud of you Layne not just because you are a great runner but most of all you are a great person.  You are special!  We thank God for blessing us for wonderful children and grandchildren.

This is my favorite picture.  All smiles.

Layne and Lucy March 27, 2021

Softball and Cross Country.  A perfect way to spend a Saturday!!!!  Lucy is finally playing on a team that is her own age group.  She has been playing up an age group because of lack of teams and because she can.
We all mentioned how much she has grown!  She did great!!

Hit that ball!

We left Lucy's game to see Layne run cross country.  There weren't many girls on the either team so they ran with the boys.  Layne's goal! Beat the boys!  These are the only girls running for Deer Park at this meet.

Off they go.  Layne mentioned later the boys start off fast.
Lap number one!

This course was difficult for spectators.  We just stayed put and waited for her to come around.  The third time was the finish!
Here she goes, in third place overall.  She beat the boys, all but two of them.
Crossing the finish!  Several of the runners talked about how difficult the course was, including Layne.  After she finished and looked at her time she said, " I'm not mad about that, it was a hard course with a hard hill."

Gotta check that time. It was exciting seeing her do so good even against all the boys.  There were some whispers from the Freeman boys about her getting 3rd place over all.  They were impressed.
We didn't go to Lucy's next game but she was a star pitcher.  She pitched 3 innings and no one scored.
So happy to be back at sports!  Watching the grandkids play is a blessing!
