God Bless America July 4th, 2016 North Cascades

Happy 4th of July in Twisp, Washington!  What did we like about this day in Twisp?  It was as things should be.  A simple celebration of the United States of America with all the beautiful things a small town has to offer.

The first thing we noticed was fun in the local park!
And of course the Twisp Bakery was on the list of things to do.  I had coffee and Mike had a little extra something with his coffee.
The crowd slowly started gathering for the 4TH of July parade.  We thought we better stake our claim to a spot.

The parade route! The streets lined with flags!
Even I wouldn't have asked this man if I could take his picture.  Mike did!  He thought he must have been a local and Mike just wanted a picture of a local.  The man was not pleased but grumbled and told Mike it would be OK.
God Bless America! Land that I Love!

Here we go!  The 4th of July Parade in Twisp, WA.  It was perfect and just how we expected it to be. Family fun! The streets were packed with people that were ready for some excitement.
 Lots of horses!

 A fire throwing truck!
I love this picture.  All the people lining the streets in a small town for the parade!

Most of the people in the parade threw candy for the kids.  It made me happy to see the kids scramble for the treats!  Loved that they brought bags to hold all the candy.  Their expectations were high and they weren't disappointed.
 Violin players!
Isn't this just the best way ever to spend the 4th!  It made me teary eyed I was so happy!
Lost of cars, most advertising something or someone!

 These girls were on wheels!

The neighborhood dog was even in the parade.  Mike and I said over and over how beautifully simple this was.

When these guys appeared the crowd started clapping and cheering.  There were lots of fires in Washington last summer and firefighters came from all over the world to help Washington.

Let's play in the water from the water trucks!  Look at all the kids running to the water to be sprayed.  Pure joy!

Not exactly sure what this was all about but it was cute.
We are drawing to an end.  The best parade ever! What's next?
Well, the Art Festival of course!  Let's go!
Oh yes!  Now this is a party!

Three different bands played during the Art Festival.  There were lots of booths that had different crafts for the people that attended.  I think most of them were for the kids.  I like the announcers suit.  Very stylish!
Band number one shall remain nameless because I don't remember the name.

The good ol' days! Climbing the tree to get the best view and have a little snack!

Yes, there was! There was a hula hoop contest.   You are watching the winner!
Band number two.  They had a name but...
We decided to take a walk through the town and come back for the pie eating contest.  I saw this little one and had to snap a picture of her.  So adorable!

And here we are! The pie eating contest. Mike had thought this through.  How to win.  Just dive in and knock as much of the pie out of the plate as possible.  He was too old to enter the contest.  The winner used Mike's strategy.

 The leftovers!
Next is the fire throwing juggler!  I really liked this guy.  He got the kids involved in what he was doing.  They didn't get to throw any fire, thankfully.

Balancing on a board on top of a ball.  Now that is talent!
He asked the kids to blow out the fire and it would just start up again.  They kept trying!
 Rocking painting is a standard!

Band number three was the best we thought.  They also had a name that I don't remember.
It was dance time for their last song.  Let's join in!  OK!
Dancing to the music! Time to head back to Winthrop.
Fill up time in Winthrop.  It has been a while since I have seen a gas pump like this.
We saw a sign on the road about a museum.  We climbed up to the top of the hill to see it.  It was a mining museum.  We spent over an hour there looking at things and reading about them.
This is the path we took.
The view from the top of the hill.

This is an old mine shaft.
The cart and tools were still in it.

Now this is a dedicated mail carrier!

This is how the newspaper was made!

This was a typical home for the miners.  You can't stand up and go through the door, it is too small.

 The local doctor's office.

Ouch!  This does not look pleasant at all!
 The scale is huge.
This home was called something like the Mansion on the Hill.  Maybe the Palace.  It was much fancier than the little one room home.

 School time!

 Heading back for dinner now!

As we were walking to our dinner spot we saw this.  This duck is a pet and follows her owner everywhere.  She was known by the owner here so I assume she lived in Winthrop.
Dinner at the Old Schoolhouse Brewery.
 The view from our table.

After dinner we took a drive up to Sun Mountain Lodge to check out the bike trails.  We stumbled on Patterson Lake.
We also saw some of the damage from the fires last summer.  Time to call it a day.  Tomorrow is another adventure.
